Two years ago, I embarked on an exciting journey that would shape my career and understanding of sustainable development. I enrolled in an MSc program at the University of Sussex, known for its stellar reputation in Development Studies and Business and Economics.
From October 2020 to December 2022, I dove headfirst into various subjects. Courses like "Science, Technology and Innovation," "Policy Analysis," and "Market-based Solutions for Sustainable Development" challenged me, broadened my perspective, and solidified my dedication to this field.
The course's interdisciplinary approach was a game-changer. I delved into economics, political science, development studies, and innovation studies - a mix that enriched my understanding of sustainable development. It equipped me to translate socio-ecological theories and technological innovation into real-world policies and practices.
One of the highlights of my journey was learning from the experts at SPRU, the world's largest academic body studying science, technology, and innovation. The cutting-edge research and insights I gained from SPRU were invaluable.
A unique aspect of my MSc journey was studying remotely due to the pandemic. It was challenging at times but it also taught me resilience and adaptability.
Beyond academics, my time at Sussex helped me hone skills critical to my field - policy analysis, sustainable supply chain management, critical thinking, public speaking, and presentation skills.
In March 2023, I officially graduated with First-Class Honours. The MSc journey was transformative, deepening my understanding of sustainability and equipping me with the tools to make a difference.
As I look ahead, I'm excited to apply what I've learned to drive sustainability transformations in businesses, and international development agencies. I'm also considering furthering my education with a Ph.D.
